Transit

Use of Previous Translations

Alignment tool:
The quick preparation of translations not prepared in Transit is made possible by Transit's built-in alignment tool. The prepared data may be used as translation memory for later projects.

The use of reference materials:
Transit supports a standard TMX data exchange format for the exchange of translation and translation memory data with other translation memory systems. The greatest advantage of the program, is that it makes the instant use of previous translations possible, without searching and having to remember the date and topic of the translation.

Translation Support

Concordance search with Fuzzy logic:
With Transit the translation memory records always stay in their original environment, so it is very easy to find the context where a given sentence was present in a previous translation.

Search in source and target languages:
In addition to sentences, Transit can also search the reference material for word combinations and expressions.

Original context:
Transit shows words in their original context.

Creating and using dictionaries:
The precise and consistent use of expressions is a necessary part of professional translations. One or more dictionaries related to the topic of the current translation can be threaded to the project and displayed as one. The dictionary can be updated at will, synonyms and explanations can be affixed to words, existing entries can be modified as needed. The program automatically highlights expressions found in the text, while the dictionary window displays them on screen, which can then be imported into the text with a single combination of keystrokes.

Technological Advantages

Multilanguage, language independent:
Transit is a multilanguage, language independent translation memory - with its help one can translate from any language to any other language. The translator works in the same environment, regardless of whether he is translating from English to Hungarian or German to Russian.

Small data size:
Transit's translation memories and work files are very small, simple text files supplemented with tags. As opposed to tools using database translation memory (where projects are often larger than 100 MB), the largest Transit projects don't exceed 10 MB.

Open, safe data format:
The open file format significantly reduces the chances of file errors.

Usable in a network environment:
By using the advantages of a network, Transit allows several translators to use the same reference material and dictionaries at the same time.

Overview of History

Comments for every segment:
Transit records the status of each sentence, changes made to the sentence and its new status as well. Comments can be added to each segment - who made it, who is working on it, what references were used - and the current status of each segment is also visible.

Project Statistics

With Transit, the translator or project manager can generate a data summary in seconds, allowing them to calculate the size and costs of the translation project in advance, or after the completion of the project.

The size of the project can be calculated in each work phase, based on characters, words, lines or pages, all adjusted for the changes in size due to the translation!

We can view statistics about pre-translated, partially translated, and untranslated segments, along with calculations based on words or sentences (the given state and number of segments, words and characters, and the manner of their translation).

Client-specific information and settings can be saved and retrieved from the system, e.g. price per line.

The exact costs can be calculated during any phase of work.

The size of the projects can be calculated with different methods, e.g. from the point of view of the translator, proofreader or client.

Efficient Quality Assurance

Transit offers a broad scale of useful functions for the translator, allowing for checking the quality of their work, thus making it possible to prepare a flawless translation. Computerised tests cover a broad scale of possible criteria, from formal requirements (e.g. data integration) to ones touching on the content of the translation. Additional test programs can be integrated into Transit.

Furthermore, it is possible to check the completion of the translation, the terminological consistency, formats, numbers, units and spelling in 18 different languages.

Retaining original format:
Transit files are in XML format, they contain tags which cover the formatting settings of all computerised word processing systems. Regardless of the format of the source file (WinWord, Excel, PowerPoint, FrameMaker, PageMaker etc.), Transit will always create an XML file out of it with the same DTD. As a result of this process the data of the translation memory become completely independent from the source file formats.

Efficient Help for Translators

Simulating Word, and word processing functions:
Simulation of the familiar Word processing program, makes it possible for the translators to complete their work in a familiar environment (key combinations, search and replace, copy and paste, spellchecker, bookmark, macros etc.).

Personalizable profiles:
The editing environment can be changed to suit practically all of the user's needs. The colours of the screen, the colours denoting the different status of sentences, fonts, size (without changes to the exported, final versions of the documents) the size and orientation of different windows, the content of different windows, scroll bar, etc. are all customisable.

The simultaneous use of several dictionaries:
The precise and consistent use of expressions is a necessary part of professional translations. One or more dictionaries related to the topic of the current translation can be threaded to the project and displayed as one. The dictionary can be updated at will, synonyms and explanations can be affixed to words, existing entries can be modified as needed.

Direct insertion from the dictionary:
With the help of TermStar the translator can freely choose the related dictionaries to be threaded to the current project. The words of the sentence to be translated are analysed by the system, the words that are stored in the attached dictionaries are automatically highlighted (in red), the dictionary window displays them on screen, they can be imported into the text with a single combination of keystrokes.

Opening all files in a single window:
Transit, as opposed to file-centered applications, is a project-centered system. The translation editor makes it possible to load all files in a single project at the same time. Thus all the files in a project can be opened in the same window.

Fast work, even with lots of files:
The size and difficulty of translation projects varies from case to case. They can be single page letters or complicated software localisation projects. Transit can handle all of them, since it excels at handling large projects.

Efficient Help for Project Managers

Logical storage of projects:
Transit allows projects to be stored logically, e.g. according to the client.

Preparing a translation extract:
A translation extract can be generated (a list of segments which are not automatically pre-translated) with or without context. Threading back into the target language environment is, of course, automatic.

Saveable options:
With the help of Transit, different options can be saved, for example, on the given languages, the type of source document, the physical location of files, on the dictionaries used in the course of the project, and reference material attached to the project.
